Description
This volume presents the official proceedings of the National Day of Applied Microbiology in the Service of Industry (JNMASI’25), held on May 8th, 2025 at M’Hamed Bougara University of Boumerdes. The publication brings together a rich body of work highlighting the essential roles of microorganisms across major industrial, agricultural, environmental, and medical sectors. Throughout this scientific day, researchers explored the contributions of fermentation and microbial processes to the food and chemical industries, where yeasts and bacteria enable the production of ethanol, biofuels, fermented dairy products, probiotics, enzymes, amino acids, and other fundamental biomolecules. The discussions also addressed agricultural challenges resulting from excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides, emphasizing sustainable alternatives such as biofertilizers, biopesticides, and organic farming to preserve soil fertility and environmental balance. Environmental microbiology featured prominently, showcasing the vital role of microorganisms in nutrient recycling, pollutant degradation, ecosystem management, and biodiversity preservation. In the medical field, the event highlighted the significant contribution of industrial microbiology to the development of new therapeutic molecules, including antibiotics, vitamins, natural precursors, and steroid drugs derived from microbial synthesis. The proceedings further examined the integration of biosafety, risk modelling, and artificial intelligence, demonstrating how AI-driven tools can anticipate, assess, and manage microbiological risks in public health, agriculture, and the food industry. Under the slogan “Innovate, Transform, Produce: The Power of Applied Microbiology for Industry,” this publication offers a comprehensive scientific overview aimed at researchers, students, and professionals interested in the innovative microbial solutions shaping the future of agro-ecological transition, environmental protection, and national food and energy security..
