This book is regarded as a thoughtful text for Rafeeq al-Azm’s project and opinions. Although it was the first book for him to compile, it consists of what indicates the clarity of his viewpoint, the integration of his conception in respect of the Renaissance project, and its own references.
It moreover represents a loud scream in criticizing the community and reality and in amending some understandings concerning civility, urbanity, development, education, liberty, fairness, societal structure, the fundamentals of Islamic Jurisprudence, and the latter’s relationship with civilization and urbanization. All of these worries and anxieties that preoccupied the author nearly a century ago are the same matters that still preoccupy Muslim communities and the entire world today, with a slight transformation in the reflection and images of problems. The personification of a thorough resolution remains the very settlement that could be persuasive and logical; however, it has not taken place since his era until now.
