Synopsis – Hadara Story

Hadara Story recounts one of the most extraordinary true tales ever documented in the Algerian Sahara — the life of Hadara, a child who lived for eleven years among wild ostriches. Based on testimonies from Sheikh Salem Ben Brahim, the only known eyewitness who personally met Hadara in 1958, the book offers both a historical and spiritual exploration of a story that transcends myth and legend.
The author, Mohammed Abdel Kader Bokreta, revisits this astonishing event through detailed narrative research and personal engagement with the Swedish writer Monica Zak, who had earlier published her own version of the story. Bokreta’s journey to Adrar with Zak and British photographer Kim Naylor in 2008 revealed striking differences between oral and written accounts, leading to the present authoritative version validated by local witnesses.
Through rich storytelling, Hadara Story reconstructs the life of a child raised in the desert by ostriches, guided mysteriously by a saintly figure identified by scholars as Al-Khidr. The narrative explores Hadara’s eventual reintegration into human society, his spiritual wisdom, and his encounters with revered scholars such as Sheikh Ma’a Al-Aynine.
